Karen Dicker is excited to be the new general music,band, and choir teacher at Bellair Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona. Karen spent two years as a K-8 general music and choir teacher at Mountain View K-8 in Washington Elementary School District. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Music Education at Arizona State University. Before dedicating time to graduate school, Karen spent two seasons as the principal bassoonist with the Verde Valley Sinfonietta.
Karen graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2011 with her Bachelors of Music in Education with Honors. During her time at NAU, she performed two solo recitals and enjoyed the principal bassoon positions in the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. Karen was also highly involved in the chamber music program and played important works including those by Nielsen and Hindemith.
Karen has traveled extensively as a bassoonist including trips to China with the NAU School of Music, Germany and CBDNA Reno with the Wind Symphony, British Columbia with the Phoenix Symphony Guild (now Phoenix Youth Symphony), and Europe with the Arizona Ambassadors of Music. She has also attended the Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp in North Carolina where she took reed classes with Jim Poe.
